Matkalla Kilpisjärven Biologiselle Asemalle - Enroute to Kilpisjarvi Biological Station

Enroute towards Kilpisjärvi Biological Station; although only 7 first kilometers are to done by trekking. The Japanese expedition is led by Mr. Aimo Jaakkonen from Oulanka Research Station (in front) and Ms. Maija Hirvonen from Finnish. Institute in Tokyo (as last). Japanilaiset vieraat valmiina paluumatkaan - Japanese guests ready for takeoff

In the morning, at 8:00, our Japanese guests had to be ready for takeoff, for trekking back to Ylinuortti-river and to the cars. SMEAR-fotosynteesin mittaus - SMEAR photosynthesis measurement

Mr. Ville Vakkari demonstrated to the guests in Kotovaara SMEAR-station the photosynthesis measurement couvettes wich had been installed to the canopy of youn Scots pine forest.
Pikkukäpylinnun kannanvaihteluista - On population biology of Common crossbill

Mr. Teuvo Hietajarvi (in front) talked to the Japanese guests about population biology of Common crossbill (Loxia curvirostra). Teuvo is under Scots pine tree in which he had found a nest of crossbill. Currently there were 4 chics in the nest.

Dr. Masahi MURAKAMI inspected the nest of Common Crossbill. He recorded that there were 4 chics in the nest and that they were doing well despite of cold and foggy early summer weather.
